The Ghanaian Premier League outfit, Dreams FC on Sunday, February 25, 2024 won their penultimate game in the competition against Tunisian powerhouse, Club Africain by a goal to nil courtesy Godfred Atuahene on the 49th minute when the ever-present goal contributor, Abdul Aziz Issah laid off a very good pass to the former Liberty Professionals goal poacher.
Abdul Karim Zito, the gaffer in charge of the winning team on the weekend in his post-match interview indicated that his side gained huge inspiration from the losses of their counterparts in the CAF Champions League, Medeama SC and the Ghanaian Senior National Team, The Black Queens.
Black Queens, Medeama, and Kotoko all lost their games before today, so I had to go all out today and get the results for Ghana. Very proud of the boys,” Coach Zito asserted.
Medeama lost to Al Ahly in Kumasi on Friday, whilst the Black Queens also lost to Zambia in Accra respectively; both losing by a goal to nil.
The win for Dreams FC technically secures them a spot in the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederation Cup as they are group leaders with 12 points after 5 games. However, a draw or better in their final group game in Nigeria against Rivers permanently secures them a spot in the next round as Group C is still open for Rivers, Dreams and Club Africain as they all have to battle it out in their final fixture.
The final games promise to be more competitive and intense as all teams are vying for a spot in the next phase of the tourney.
